The North Wind: Enemies-to-Lovers Fantasy Romance Inspired by Greek Mythology

Alexandria Warwick is the author of the Four Wind series. The North Wind, published on May 23rd, 2024, was initially an indie publication, but after the series received thousands of 5-star reviews on Goodreads, Simon and Schuster had to step in to scoop up the next Sarah J. Mass.

Let’s be real. I am at lunch scrolling through Instagram. My favorite bookstore “San Marco Books & More” has this meet-and-greet event in their stories. I signed up for it thinking it was the next day… boy, I was wrong; it was the same day! 6:30pm.

I go in blind, never heard of Alexandria Warwick or “The North Wind” and I am so glad I did because it’s a five-star read!

Main Characters

Publisher’s Summar

Inspired by Beauty and the Beast and the myth of Hades and Persephone, this lush and enchanting enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Scarlett St. Clair.

Wren of Edgewood is no stranger to suffering. With her parents gone, it’s Wren’s responsibility to ensure she and her sister survive the harsh and endless winter, but if the legends are to be believed, their home may not be safe for much longer.

For three hundred years, the land surrounding Edgewood has been encased in ice as the Shade, a magical barrier that protects the townsfolk from the Deadlands beyond, weakens. Only one thing can stop the Shade’s fall: the blood of a mortal woman bound in wedlock to the North Wind, a dangerous immortal whose heart is said to be as frigid as the land he rules. And the time has come to choose his bride.

When the North Wind sets his eyes on Wren’s sister, Wren will do anything to save her—even if it means sacrificing herself in the process. But mortal or not, Wren won’t go down without a fight…

The North Wind is a stand-alone, enemies-to-lovers slow-burn fantasy romance, the first in a series sprinkled with Greek mythology.

My Review

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

adored every moment of this book. It’s often described as a blend of Beauty and the Beast with Hades and Persephone, which immediately caught my attention. However, I’d say it’s more like a mix of ACOTAR. It captures all those Beauty and the Beast/Hades and Persephone vibes you love with Feyre and Rhys. There is also an extra layer of fantasy. The plot kicks off in a small village. A woman is taken by The North Wind—aka a dangerously alluring winter god—to his kingdom. There, she helps protect the land’s borders.

Wren has quickly become one of my favorite heroines; she’s fierce, flawed, and utterly lovable. And Boreas? He’s everything you’d want in a fantasy romance hero: stoic, brooding, powerful, but completely soft when it comes to Wren. The slow burn in their relationship is painstakingly slow, but so worth the wait. Their dynamic is amazing, but the side characters also shine. Orla is an absolute sweetheart, and Pallas is a total cinnamon roll. I genuinely loved them all!

Now, I’m intrigued to see how the redemption arc in the next book will play out. Could this be the Tamlin redemption arc we never got (and maybe shouldn’t have)? Okay, I’ll stop with the ACOTAR comparisons, but seriously, do yourself a favor and preorder this book. If you’re even remotely into fantasy romance, this one deserves a spot on your shelf.

Book Quotes

You,” he says, catching my chin before I can look away, “are the most important person in my life. There is nothing I would not do for you. I would conquer cities in your name. I would lay waste to the world and place its greatest treasures at your feet. I would cross realms and topple empires and alter time, all for the promise of an eternity spent by your side.
